Cruising the Carribbean

I have only sailed short trips along the Atlantic coast, lasting several days. I am looking at getting adventurous, and going international into the carribbean. What do I need to know about preparing my boat for longer trips? What supplies do I need? What spares do I need and how much? I would really like to spend several weeks at least doing this.
